Writing quote for January 1, 2008

Great is the art of beginning, but greater is the art of ending.

-- Longfellow

Quote for January 1, 2008 ('cause I won't be around tomorrow.)

Be willing to be a beginner every single morning.

--Meister Eckhart

I never met a tree I didn't love

or hug. . .

in 2008, I'll be photographing less trees, but for now. . .

Are you as ready as me for this year to end????

It was a good year in sooooo many ways, but still so much I've yet to accomplish/complete. Very frustrating. Two days and I've only three things to complete by Dec. 31 and then I start tabula rasa, latin for 'clean slate'-- all anew and determined. I have a list of things I've promised people and things I want to do that have not been done and the plan is to mark off something everyday.

First up is getting a ticket to see BB King. He was an hour away on Thursday. When I read that in the paper, I was like WHAT???????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Last night he was in Albuquerque, three hours away. Went to his website and he'll be in Nashville in March so that's what I'm shooting for. 24 hours of overtime at the job and I was planning to get the digital camera, but that can wait.

Creative quote for 12-17-07

I like to listen. I have learned a great deal from listening carefully. Most people never listen.

— Ernest Hemingway

Quote for 12-17=07

Life was meant to be lived, and curiosity must be kept alive. One must never, for whatever reason, turn one’s back on life.

- Eleanor Roosevelt

I got a moose

Not the moose I wanted, but I'm gonna take Stephen Stills' advice, more or less paraphrasingly, and if I can't have the moose I love, I'm gonna love the moose I got:)

Maya Kovskaya

Remember that name.

Not much writing

but close to 200 photos to sort through and continue submitting. However, I do have my first confirmed reading for 2008. Chicago in late Spring. Working on a return to Detroit so I can hop over into Ontario, Canada and do a reading (hopefully, hopefully, hopefully) at a bookstore there.

Other than that my life is quiet. Working though I'm looking for another job. Applied at the community college where I used to teach. Great pay and hours. Let's hope a class materializes for me.

I collect mooses, remember I told you that, but the one I wanted this season was sold out at Sears. The Sears here is a small store so a guy I work with who lives in El Paso was going to help me out and get one, but alas, there were none to be gotten :(

It rained today. Loved that. Two rainbows in the sky. Beautiful.

yes, I like clouds

and trees. . .

can you tell?

Friday, November 30, 2007

Oh, and

I talked to a woman at the university bookstore at my alma mater and they will carry my chapbook! Yoo hoo!!!!!!!!

So that's a bust

Am not going to finish the story for the contest. Not the first time this year-- Ha!I think I actually only got things in for three contests. And not one gave me a nod.

No matter. There are two contests that accept previously pubbed so I'm sending those out. The novella that was previously subbed but my mail got all screwed up and I have no idea what the reply, if any, was on it goes out to a different journal.

Photos on a cd to send off tomorrow when the submission period for another journal reopens.

So it's been a fairly good day of submission!

Writing quote for 11-29-07

For a long time now I have tried simply to write the best I can. Sometimes I have good luck and write better than I can.

-- Ernest Hemingway

Quote for 11-29-07

Time is that quality of nature which keeps events from happening all at once. Lately it doesn't seem to be working.

--Anonymous

Wasn't it just December 31, 1999 yesterday????

Where does time go? Almost a decade into this 2000 thing. Man!

Can't believe it's November 29 but of course it is 'cause tomorrow's a contest deadline and I've made so few that I've wanted to.

But I'm going to try.

Key word. Try.

Quote for 11-25-07

I want to feel passion, I want to feel pain. I want to weep at the sound of your name. Come make me laugh, come make me cry... just make me feel alive.

--Joey Lauren Adams

Creative quote for 11-25-07

What is art but a way of seeing?

— Thomas Berger

Oh for those days

when I had at least 50 submissions out.

Lots of simultaneous, but because I've had some incidents I've stopped doing that. At this time I have 5 stories out, plus one that's lost somewhere 'cause I was bouncing around the states when I submitted it.

Rejections galore. But oh well.

An anthology looking for works that concern Mississippi. I've got two that I'm sending to them. Hoping. . .

soulja boy pooh

Click on the post title for a really funny video featuring Winnie the Pooh & friends -- great job of editing to the song from Soulja Boy

okay, so now I'm submitting photos

Got some works out to some online mags. Anxious 'cause this is new to me. I've had photographs published but those accompanied news stories that I wrote and I had one in the folklife program book for the Smithsonian when I worked as a field researcher for them, but again it was a journalistic kind o' thing.

Currently taking pics with my camera phone. Sometimes it works and well, sometimes it just don't!

I need to get a digital camera. Looking for a great deal on one preferably with a printer. Has to be bought at Best Buy 'cause of the reward points and all. Every Sunday scanning the sales circular.

If I celebrated Christmas, I might ask Santa 'cause I've been a good girl all year.

Oh, stop snickering.

I have been.

I HAVE!

Songs by The Carpenters running through my head all morning

Hallelujah for youtube.com

I love The Carpenters-- brings back memories of 7th grade and my first (and only) transistor radio, me and my classmates licking the 9volt battery for a jolt.

Okay, we were really bored. . .
and weird. . .

Creativity is inventing, experimenting, growing, taking risks, breaking rules, making mistakes, and having fun.

--Mary Lou Cook

I swung by Nashville when I went to Detroit. . . .

It runs through the 27th of November if you're close by.

--Edwin H. Land quotes

If you look deeply into the palm of your hand, you will see your parents and all generations of your ancestors. All of them are alive in this moment. Each is present in your body. You are the continuation of each of these people.
