In this bright future you can't forget your past.

It's only two bucks

and I could win millions, right?

I only have to outguess or hope the machine outguesses 174.2  others,  I mean 174.2 MILLION others.

Quote for August 5, 2013

Music doesn't lie.  If there is something to be changed in this world, then it can only happen through music.

--Jimi Hendrix

Don't understand it

-- how the songs I grew up with are now played on the "oldies" station, but whatever.  Heard this today and have been hitting replay on Youtube all evening.

Quote for July 30, 2013

Waste your money and you're only out of money, but waste your time and you've lost a part of your life.
--Michael LeBoeuf

I had a birthday

Not that I celebrate them, however, several businesses with my e-mail address sent me best wishes.

Used to be free stuff from some.  Not no more.

One email subject line said there as a "gift" attached for me-- a % off coupon when I spent $75 or more at the store.

A gift.  Yeah, right.

I wonder how many times a person can listen to this before tiring of it?

Was that the fastest summer ever???

Time to go back to work.  Already?  Really?

Will do two part-time gigs; cutting the hours of the job I had previously and back to teaching, a writing course totally new to me.  I've got a textbook to read and a class to design.

Now, time seems so short with so much to do.

And reading periods are opening next month--got stories ready, Gwendolyn?  Gwendolyn?

Seems like just yesterday it was the middle of May/the beginning of June when I was gearing up to Get. Things. Done.  Ha!

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

If you don't face the truth within yourself, it is hard to be honest with someone else.

And another grandchild on the way

That'll make 1/2 dozen.  But they're all cuties.

A survey found that people would rather have a root canal than

speak in public.

Me, the other way around but a root canal it shall be.

This is my daughter doing what she does

This is my favorite song she's written and performed.

This is my youngest son doing what he does

Ignore the cussing and there's a R rating for content (heh heh).  I tell him not to cuss but who listens to their mom??  Still he's talented as heck.

You didn't really think the verdict would be otherwise, did you?

Please.

This is American Justice we're talking about.

Twinkies are back!

Not that I care.  They're gross.  Late last year when they were disappearing, I was in the grocery store and this guy had several boxes of a certain confection in his cart.  He was telling someone that he was going to sell them on ebay.

Only problem, that he obviously didn't see, was that he didn't have a single box of Twinkies.  He had

Not quite the same thing.

Man I miss that kind of music and . . .

the platform shoes and passing around the Jacqueline Susann novels and my afro.

Yesterday morning was Great! Today, not so much.

Found the greatest hits albums of Bread, Boz Scaggs, Seals & Croft and the double album greatest hits of Gordon Lightfoot (!!!!!) for sale yesterday morning.  I so love 45's and 33LPs.

This morning, woke up to a clogged drain. Yuck,

Anyway this is my most favorite GL song:

My most favorite Bread song:

Boz Scaggs: (though Lowdown is excellent)

and my favoirte Seals & Croft:

Rick Perry

Have always thought he was a very attractive man.

But he's a Republican and every time he speaks, it just all goes out the window.

If only he were a mannequin.

If you've ever been called a 'nigger'

(and I have) then you'd know why it's a big deal.

Quote for June 12, 2013

When it comes to life the critical thing is, whether you take things for granted or take them with gratitude.

 - Gilbert Chesterton

Oh, T.O.!

Mr. Owens the writing has been on the wall for a minute now.  Your NFL career is OVAH.

Your doing.  Be a man and take responsibility.  Reap what you sow and all that.  Karma.  What goes around. . .

And look at the bright side: surely your child support payments will decrease 'cause you will probably never see contract $$$$ like that again.

Quote for June 5, 2013

The only person who is spiritually smart is the one who has learned how to learn, unlearn, and change directions instantly, and start all over again, if your soul calls for it.

Been bummin'

and playing bingo on my phone.  So addicting.  Stayed up one night--ALL NIGHT--winning and losing.  And then there's slots--  Good thing I will never ever visit Vegas or Atlantic City. Gwendolyn = BROKE.  Anyway, am done with wasting time.

Decided that today was the first day of the rest of my life.  List of things to accomplish daily to get me something other than imaginary trophies for daubing 500 times or winning 100 bingos.

Right now I'm reaching for something I feel slightly beyond me.  Am qualified but my insecurity keeps creeping in, whispering why not me but I'm thinking why not me?  Scared and excited.  Courage is acting in spite of one's fears  so I will throw my application in the hat.  Besides you lose 100% of the things you never reach for.

Random stuff

Denzel was robbed at the Oscars!   Loved "Flight"-- that man Mr. Washington is da bomb.

The world is CRAZY!!!!!!!   I've been told a few times that things in some of  my stories aren't believable, but if you look at the news all kinds of UNBELIEVABLE stuff happens.  Life is so much stranger than fiction. WHY WHY WHY do people  hurt children?

Beyonce is so overrated.  I can't believe Oprah and The First Lady have fallen for it.

I've been reading and I have a "real" job and a new grandchild/daughter

Let's start with the new granddaughter.

Absolutely adorable.

Then I have a full-time job that I love most of the times.  I didn't opt out in the time allotted so now I have a 401k and I've got insurance.

Don't let the GOP fool you-- health insurance is a necessity and could easily be paid for if people had a living wage and not a minimum one.  Executives and CEOs could take a pay cut or not so many bonuses so the people doing the grunt work could survive.  but I've digressed---

Mostly I've been spending my free time reading.  I've got old literary journals, some of them no longer around, like Bananafish and Other Voices, and I refuse to take these journals into another year unread.  Some are old--

How old?

In one story a woman goes to a phone booth to make a call -- that's how old they are.  I've also bee reading some short story collections and the stories in the Harpers magazines that just keep stacking up.

Brand spanking new year

Tabula rasa is my favorite thing to say this time of year.  Clean slate in latin.

A whole new page.  I will get back to this blog -- just really working on some writing projects I would like to see completed before 2014 gets here.

In the meantime, I hope you write wonderful things on that new page of yours!
