Taking a break

I will be gone from here for awhile. Think summer vacation;-)

Actually I will be working on the writing and on an idea for a short film. I didn't get to 100 stories, just 98 -- 8 of those have been published, 1 is awaiting publication, 11 are out making the submission rounds and 3 are waiting for me to find a possible home. The balance I hope to rewrite in the coming months. Just in time for reading periods reopening.

Last minute biz we need to take care of: if you ordered my chapbok, it'll arrive this month.

Go
  • here
  • if you want to see what I took off at the Burlesque Poetry Hour 'cause I don't anticipate being back before July. I'll be at that event in DC on the 25th of the month.

I will miss you but I will be having fun bebopping around:)

    My last day

It kept getting pushed back, but today is it. I never thought I could stand living in Az and now, here I am kind of sad to be leaving. Go figure!

    Got to finish packing.

Looking forward to this next new adventure. And, if nothing else, at least this time I'm moving east!

"You took a wrong turn," this man kidded me when (early on) we were discussing my move here and I'd mentioned that I was trying to move to Vermont.

Ha! I've taken quite a few of those, Mister, but somehow I always seem to end up right where I need to be.

A rejection, a long time coming

I just got a rejection for a work I submitted to an anthology last year. I'd long since believed the sub got lost in the mail.

It was an erotic work and suggestions for sending work for a future anthology were offered, but my erotic days may be over.

I am in the midst of a religious conversion kind of thing and there are things I wouldn't be permitted to write (think Prince), well not for public consumption ('cause my conscience would allow me to write sexy things for my husband --okay, okay when I get one. Must you point everything out?).

    Anyway--

Not an easy decision for me, though I write very little erotica. It's just hard giving up things, "the pleasures of sin," the Bible calls them,'cause well it is fun being relatively bad. And this world is sooo tempting.

    "I have conquered the world."

That's the part I've got to remember. That's the basis, for me, to make the right choice.

    I just gotta make it. . .

    No image available

Amazon.com will post my story without a pic. Yahoo! So hopefully, "Los Prisioneros Pequenos (The Little Prisoners)" will soon be available.

It's only been 7 (!!!!) (cough, cough) months since its acceptance.

Let your mind start a journey thru a strange new world. Leave all thoughts of the world you knew before. Let your soul take you where you long to be...Close your eyes let your spirit start to soar, and you'll live as you've never lived before.

    --Erich Fromm

    Please don't leave me

I'm leaving stuff at Carrie's and coming back for it later.

I was going to leave the bears, but they didn't want to be left in this heat. So I emptied the luggage of some clothes and made room for them.

The moose wanted to know why he had to stay, esp. since he's not a creature indigenous to the desert so I unpacked some books and added him.

The pig then wanted to know why she had to stay esp. since she was smaller than most everyone else going.

I guess I really don't need to read those novels this summer. . . .

I've always wanted to write about kudzu

I have. Something metaphorical about it. Can't wait to have another of my wishes come true.

    The Writer Profile Project

Mitzi McMahon is the writer currently interviewed by Kelly over at her website. Read about her here.

That really is a pretty picture

Amazon.com is waiting on a pic of/from me for the shorts program. I went and took some.

The clerk and I were looking over the digital options. I chose one and she agreed it was a good choice.

"That really is a pretty picture," she said.

One of the better ones I've taken. But looking closely, though, you can tell I'm tired. And that was in every shot. Tyra would say that I needed to move past my fatigue and make my eyes smile, but I ain't trying to be no supermodel, just sell a story. But still I wouldn't be happy using any of the photos.

I was so exhausted. The last story I wrote took a lot out of me pyschologically and emotionally. And there was that Law & Order marathon and all the others on at any given time of the day. I do believe I caught every episode of the original series, SVU and CI that came on last week.

So much other that I have to do this week before I take off so the pic and my story will have to wait a bit longer.

    Got my ticket

Headed to Tennessee, though I will be mostly in Mississippi researching a novella about Freedom Summer and in Alabama, researching a novel I wrote and have been thinking about but not really revising. The plan is to get real serious and get a book, book not a chapbook done. We'll see.

    Don't get yourself arrested again

Why is that the piece of advice I keep hearing?

    heh heh

Moving to the American South, which should totally be an experience for an uppity Negro like me!

When I got arrested last year, I was told that part of "my problem" was that I thought I could talk to the police the same as I talked to other people, BUT BEING BLACK, I couldn't.

Not a good idea? Not permissible?

What the heck does that statement mean?

I was like, whatever. (Yes, one day I will share with you my arrest adventure.)

Still, I have no intention of getting arrested. I'm going to keep my mouth shut. I am going to observe and when I'm ready to open up and say something, it'll be through some artistic means.
