Oh Freedom Over Me

The selected images below are on exhibit at the Herndon Gallery at Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio. Morgan Fellows, Anne Bohlen and Jean Gregorek are the curators. The traveling exhibit is from the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University.

A reading was held in conjunction with the exhibit; "Letters Home From Freedom Summer" was a short reading of some of the letters the white Northern students who went into Mississippi in 1964sent home. I didn't get to hear all the ones that were being presented (I had to get back to Antioch MacGregor for writing workshop stuff) but many letters spoke of the fear of violence, of death.

White people involved in the Civil Rights Movement often got it worse; the price they paid for being "nigger lovers."
